Evening all – hope things are progressing smoothly.

As you know, the ‘warm up’ chapel competition will be held tomorrow afternoon, in the lower level of Crown Hall.  The competition will be juried by several guest jurors beginning at 2:00pm, and winners will be announced around 4:30 pm in lower core, at the conclusion of the review.   The jurors will be selecting a shortlist for final review, then 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners as well as honorable mentions as they see fit.  Additionally, you will participate, by awarding winners in three categories for Best Project (green dot), Best Model(blue dot) and Best Presentation (yellow dot).

As we have discussed, you will be assigned a 2′ wide vertical column of space to pin-up your 11×17 drawings.  Up to 3 boards may be presented along with your final model and any relevant study models.    As always, please show respect to the space, the building and your neighbors.  This is especially critical tomorrow as we will be pinning up in the halls of lower core – over the top of material that needs to be left exactly as we found it.   Please take special care to leave all existing posters, announcements, etc, in tact while pinning up.   Additionally, if you have any of your own studio material pinned to any of these walls that we will be using in the studio, please be responsible for removing it prior to set up so that the person assigned to that space doesn’t have to remove it.

Setup for the competition is as follows.  Each of you will be assigned a number, and each number corresponds to a specific location in the lower level of Crown. Each of these locations will be clearly marked prior to setup.  To fit all 102 projects, we will be pinning up in the east and west studios, the hallways of Crown and in lower core.  Please take care to align the top of your upper most sheet with your neighbors so that the presentation has a very clean appearance.  All models can be tightly placed on the floor below your boards.  We will need you to pin-up your projects in your assigned location between 1:30 and 2:00pm so that we can promptly start the review at that time.    Please note that several of our jurors are taking time from their own studios to review, and your prompt set up will allow them to return to their studios at the conclusion of the review.  Attached here (S12 A306 CHAPEL WARM UP COMPETITION # ASSIGNMENTS AND LOCATIONS ) is the roster that assigns you a pin-up location number as well as a layout of the lower level identifying the general pin-up locations.  Again, each of these locations will be clearly marked prior to setup.   This document will also be displayed on the doorways to the east and west studios at 12:30pm tomorrow afternoon.  If by mistake your name does not appear on this roster, please either contact me by email (atinucci@iit.edu) or see me tomorrow for a spot.

At 2:00pm tomorrow, please see your studio professor for the stickers you will use to select the ‘audience’ awards.  You will receive three stickers – a green, a blue and a yellow, and you will be asked to vote for your favorite Project (green dot), Model (blue dot) and Presentation (yellow dot), by placing your stickers clearly on or adjacent to your selections.  Projects selected for the shortlist will be moved to lower core for final review by the jurors and we will gather studio wide in lower core around 4:00 for final announcements.

After the winners have been announced, it is your responsibility to carefully remove your presentation and models from their displayed locations and return the lower level of Crown Hall back as we found it.

Good luck on the home stretch and can’t wait to see you tomorrow!
